Desert Flowers
🌺 Desert Flowers is a Melbourne-based community initiative bringing people together through Aboriginal art, music, food, guest speakers and community events to raise awareness of deaths in custody and men's suicide.
🎨 Created by Barkindji artist, photographer and event organiser Megan Kennedy, Desert Flowers uses creative community events to encourage awareness, conversation, connection and positive community action.
🎵 Events can bring together Aboriginal artists, musicians, performers, guest speakers, photographers and community members, with activities ranging from art exhibitions and live music to food, cultural experiences, raffles and fundraising.
🤝 Through its events, Desert Flowers also seeks to give back to the community. Fundraising activities have included contributions from art sales and raffle proceeds supporting community initiatives and programs for men.
🖤💛❤️ Mob and allies are welcome. Desert Flowers aims to provide a warm and friendly space for people who want to see positive change, connect with community or are travelling their own healing journey.
🌱 Desert Flowers is an independent, grassroots community movement, with events organised periodically in Melbourne. Each gathering has its own program and purpose while maintaining a strong focus on community, creativity, awareness and connection.
